Medical Certification Requirements For FMLA Intermittent Leave
5/9/2026
Employers may require the employee to submit a medical certification supporting the need for intermittent leave under FMLA. The form must include:
- Medical facts about the condition in accordance with HIPAA privacy standards.
- Need for intermittent or reduced-schedule leave as a form of accommodation.
- Estimated frequency and duration of leave episodes. For an HR Generalist, tracking these episodes is a critical part of human resources compliance.
Note: This is an excerpt from our FMLA Training & Certification Program. All leave management must also align with labor law and ADA requirements.
