We have been encouraged not to de-risk entire customer groups, but instead to look at the customer itself and then determine if we have the resources to monitor these accounts.

New proposed rules will regulate that we ask transactional questions related to the source of funds and purpose of the account. How to do that in a customer friendly way is now the question.

Deborah Crawford is the President of gettechnical inc. She specializes in compliance and regulations for the deposit side of financial institutions. Her 20+ year career in banking and training began at Hibernia National Bank.

Ms Crawford has been a seminar leader for many state associations and credit union groups across the nation. She has Bachelors and Masters degrees from Louisiana State University.
