Bank Training Center offers the BCE training and certification courses for those individuals interested in becoming a certified estate planner by earning the prestigious Board Certified in Estate Planning designation.
The Board Certified in Estate Planning (BCE) designation demonstrates that a certificant has gained advanced training and competency in the subject of estate planning. Designees are recognized as experts in helping their clients to prepare for dealing with the passing of a family member and the resulting transfer of property/wealth to the survivors.
Curriculum
The BCE designation is comprised of a 60-hour self-study accredited program administered over six modules.
Students are provided one year to complete the program, but typically enrollees are able to complete the program and become certified within a matter of months. There are four requirements that must be met to achieve certification:
Pass three exams; each one covers two of the six modules (students can request a three month-extension for $40)
Complete one open-book case study (a one page set of facts based on a hypothetical client)
Fill out a registration form and complete a student questionnaire, and
Sign a code of ethics
Examination Requirements
Each exam is a 90 minute, 75-question, computer-administered exam - a passing score of 70% is required for each exam. Exams must be taken sequentially, and the student pass one exam before attempting to take the next.
Candidates may schedule the exams at their convenience when prepared, and the exam may be conducted in one of two formats:
In your office with a proctor (disinterested third party). The exam will be faxed to your office; the completed exam must be faxed back for grading. No testing fee applies.
At a local Prometric testing center, with your results provided immediately upon the completion of your exam. There is no additional exam fee; it is included in the cost of your course tuition.
Additional Requirements
To earn this designation, candidates must have at least 2,000 hours of work experience in the financial services industry or a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. The designation will not be granted until the required minimum number of hours has been fulfilled or a bachelor's degree has been granted.
Continuing Education Requirements
Designees must complete 15 hours of continuing education, reported once every year. Designees have a wide range of topics and methods to choose from (e.g., attending seminars, reading books, completing other courses, teaching, writing articles, etc.). Also, each year designees must remit an annual renewal fee.
